What is Canister?
Canister is a privacy-first platform for creating on-chain time capsules. You can store messages, files, and media with a future unlock date and controlled access.
How does an on-chain time capsule work?
You create a digital capsule, define when it should unlock, and secure ownership through your authenticated identity. Core capsule state and ownership records are maintained on-chain for transparency and verifiability.
Is Canister private and secure?
Canister is designed with encryption, identity-based access control, and decentralized infrastructure principles. This architecture helps protect sensitive memories and digital assets from unauthorized access.
Can I share a canister with someone else?
Yes. You can share access details so recipients can open the canister when eligibility and unlock conditions are met.
What can I store in a canister?
Free supports message-only capsules (up to 200 characters). Signature supports up to 5 files (3MB each, 15MB total) with up to a 5-year unlock horizon. Legacy supports up to 10 files (5MB each, 50MB total) with up to a 50-year unlock horizon.
How long is my canister retained?
Signature capsules remain accessible for 30 days after unlock, then content access expires. Legacy capsules remain accessible for 1 year after unlock, then content access expires. Longer-term availability depends on network availability and protocol continuity.
Can reminder emails go to someone else?
Yes. You can send reminders to yourself (owner email) or to a different recipient such as a spouse or child. If you choose someone else, you can optionally notify them at creation time and you must confirm permission to email them.
Are reminders and marketing consent linked?
No. Reminder consent and marketing consent are separate choices. Marketing applies only to owner email and includes unsubscribe support.
